Chains

Slavery. We all know what it is, but most of us might not understand the horrible events that occured during it. Well, like you I knew about slavery, but I didn’t really think about it that much. This book opened my eyes to the true horrors of slavery and the struggles of being a slave. Chains is about a slave girl called Isabel who has been sold to a cruel couple called the Locktons. The first time Isabel tried to escape was when Madam Lockton sold her sister Ruth, but was found out and had to pay the price. She tried many other times after that, sometimes working with her friend Curzon to create a plan. I really enjoyed this book and hope you will to. I think it would intrigue readers who are passionate about equality like I am and want to learn more about things like slavery.

  1. Dear Anaia, to understand slavery in one sense is simple but in another very complex. It is simple to understand that it is something bad, particularly for the slave. If is more difficult to understand why so many societies accepted and protected the institution of slavery. I commend you for taking up in Chains a difficult and emotionally tough subject. I think your review would have brought out the emotional force of the subject if you had narrated an incidence or two, which happen to Isabel and Ruth. Also, you can also say something about what you liked or didn’t like about the book and the author.Much love, Nana

  3. Thanks for highlighting an issue that you are right we don’t think much about nowadays. But it was a most painful era when some people were treated as less than human just because of their color. Learning about slavery and how it destroyed the lives of so many people will hopefully make us aware of injustices around us.
